CARTERVILLE – A walk to raise awareness and benefit the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Association is set for 9 a.m. Saturday on the John A. Logan College campus.

Registration gets under way at 8:30 at the Community Health Education Complex. There is no entry fee to participate in the walk, but the first 100 individuals who donate $50 or more will receive a “JALC Walk for ALS” T-shirt. There will also be drawings for prizes. Water and snacks will be available for each participant.

Raffle prizes include: a two-credit tuition and fee waiver to be used for the JALC Fitness Center this fall, a $239 value; a prize package from the Hunting and Fishing Days Committee; a prize package from Shawnee Bluffs Canopy Tours; a pair of one-month memberships and T-shirts to Gold’s Gym valued at $130; a three=piece grey pearl set from Your Jewlers; a $50 gift certificate and assorted gifts from Boondock’s Seafood Company; a prize package from Black Diamond Harley-Davidson; a prize package from Moore Tourism; a golf package from Hickory Ridge Golf Course in Carbondale; and two Holiday World tickets.

Former JALC secretary, Rebecca Clifford, who was diagnosed with the disease seven years ago, came up with the idea for the walk.
