CARTERVILLE – A recipe of pasta mixed with basketball seemed to be an award-winning combination Wednesday at John A. Logan College.

John A. Logan College Athletic Director and head baseball coach Jerry Halstead of Carterville was recognized Wednesday night prior to the men’s basketball game during ‘Carterville Night’ festivities as having served the college 30 years as head baseball coach. Over that time span, Halstead has won over 1,100 games, ranking him fifth all-time in wins among active National Junior College Athletic Association coaches. (Photo courtesy Jonathan LeBlond)
After enjoying a hefty serving of spaghetti and meat sauce, salad, bread, dessert and drink, patrons made their way to the gymnasium, where they were treated to a spectacular men’s basketball game. The host Volunteers rolled over Lewis & Clark College, 95-53.
Native son, Jerry Halstead, a 1977 graduate of CHS and longtime baseball coach and athletic director at Logan, was recognized before the game for 30 years of coaching baseball at the college.
