CARTERVILLE – The 32-team Athletics Bowling Classic returns to SI Bowl in Carterville with registration beginning at noon on Sunday, Jan. 27. It is the primary fundraiser for the John A. Logan College Athletic Department.

Teams are comprised of five players each at a cost of $50 per player ($250 per team). That fee includes three games of nine-pin, no-tap bowling; ball and shoe rental; free refreshments; complimentary T-shirts; bowling towels and sponsor gift; and dinner catered by 17th Street Bar & Grill.

Additionally, prizes will be awarded for “High Game” men and women and “High Series” men and women. The winning team will receive a championship plaque for the sponsor. Individual plaques will be presented to each member of the winning team.

“This bowling tournament has been a long-standing fundraiser for us,” said JALC Athletic Director Jerry Halstead. “We’re putting a lot of effort into this event as it now represents our main fundraiser. All the money we collect will directly benefit our seven sports. We look forward to a great afternoon of bowling and fellowship. There will be good prizes and good food and drinks.”

Halstead said those individuals who aren’t interested in bowling are still welcome to sponsor a lane at $100 apiece.

“This event wouldn’t be possible without the support of sponsors like Mike Cripps with First Bank and Trust of Murphysboro; SI Bowl; 17th Street Bar & Grill; and Koerner Distributing,” he said. “It is because of their generosity, our staff’s volunteer labor and our bowlers that we are able to make this a profitable afternoon.”
