BELLEVILLE - The John A. Logan College volleyball team completed its regular season schedule Tuesday night with a four-set triumph over host Southwestern Illinois College: 25-20, 26-28, 29-27, 25-21.
The Volunteers finish Great Rivers Athletic Conference play at 5-3, good for third place. They are 14-17 overall.
Freshman outside hitter Kasey Krough of Carbondale led the Logan offense with 11 kills. Defensively, she was solid, as well, with five blocks and 11 digs.
Freshman Casey Kuechle had eight kills and five blocks. Freshman Kacey Wahlig recorded 27 assists and 11 digs. Freshman Morgan Mueller notched 17 digs to lead the team.
“We’re still not playing as well as I believe we can play, but we played well enough to win,” said Vols head coach Bill Burnside. “I think Kasey Krough is becoming a go-to player for us. It’s nice to finish the regular season on a positive note. Hopefully, we can build on this momentum at the District Tournament Friday.”
Logan will meet Lake Land at 11 a.m. Friday at Kaskaskia College in Centralia. The Vols lost both matches to the Lakers during the regular season. Should the Vols win, they will advance to semi-final round play Saturday against the tourney’s No. 1 seed, Iowa Western.
