Freeburg Setter Signs with Logan Spikers

Freeburg High School senior Kacey Wahlig recently signed a letter of intent to play volleyball next fall at John A. Logan College. Wahlig will play the setter position much like her older sister, Krystin, did for the Volunteers in 2009 and 2010. Seated with Kacey are her parents, George and Dawn. The younger sister of one of the school’s all-time best volleyball players will follow in her sister’s footsteps and attend John A. Logan College next fall on scholarship.

Kacey Wahlig is the Vols’ newest setter. The Freeburg High School senior signed a letter of intent last month and is expected to fight for playing time right off the bat as an incoming freshman.

“We think Kacey has a good skill set and will be a good fit with us,” said Vols head coach Bill Burnside. “The setter position is like a quarterback in football. Everthing runs through that position and we think Kacey can be a good one. She possesses the same competitive attitude that Krystin had and is every bit as athletic. We’re excited to have her.”

Wahlig said she, too, is excited about the idea of playing volleyball at the collegiate level, particularly at Logan.

“I’m looking forward to competing there,” she said. “It’s a strong program and that was a big part of my decision to go there. I believe I can help the team and feel the coaches there can improve my skills and prepare me for the next level.”

Wahlig added that her sister’s success certainly inspired her as an athlete.

“Definitely. I’m super excited to come to Logan.”
