Former John A. Logan College standout DaLita Scott has agreed to play basketball on scholarship this fall for Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Fla.

Scott averaged 12 points and seven rebounds a game despite some early-season knee issues. She was one of the Vols’ top scoring threats both her freshman and sophomore seasons.

“The distance away from home (Scott is a native of Hammond, Ind.) made it a tough decision for me, but ultimately, I couldn’t turn down the chance to play Division I basketball,” Scott said. “I’m leaving for Florida on Aug. 19 and am looking forward to an opportunity to do new things with a team that is rebuilding.”

Scott said she treasures her Logan experience.

“I will miss my teammates and coaches, as well as the whole environment at John A. Logan College,” she said. “I’m just going to go down there and play the best I can and hope to make a difference.”

Scott said she is majoring in computer science.

Vols head coach Marty Hawkins said Scott was a steady performer for his ballclub and her contributions will be missed.

“DaLita was just a joy to have around. I never had to question her work ethic. She practiced hard and played hard,” he said. “Amanda (assistant coach Buldtman) and I wish her nothing but the best at Florida Atlantic.”
