Logan Men Add Shooting Guard to Depth Chart

DeShawn Clay, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard from Gary, Ind., has signed to play for Logan next year.
Clay averaged 18.4 points and 9.6 rebounds as a senior for the Gary West High Cougars before attending the Christian Life Center Academy – a prep school in Houston – last year. Clay had originally committed to Kent State University.
ESPN.com analysts describe Clay as “a scorer who can really get things going from the perimeter. He has great size and strength, which allows him to get his shot off anytime he wants. He also uses that strength to get himself open off screens and drive the ball to mid-range jump shots.”
Imhoff described Clay as “a good kid” who should help the Volunteers next season.
“I’m a firm believer that we needed somebody who could put the basketball in the hole. We’ve lost Lazeric (Jones) and Jesse (Perry) who shot the ball very well for us last season,” Imhoff said. “Josh Anderson is back and has proven that he can do that for us, but we needed to add somebody to the group that we felt was a perimeter threat on a consistent basis, and DeShawn, as a high school senior, was a Division I recruit.”
Imhoff said that because of test scores, Clay opted to go the prep school route after graduating high school.
“Now, he’s here with us,” Imhoff said. “With his size and strength, DeShawn should be a great addition to our program. He can shoot the basketball. We’re tickled to have him.”
Clay will have two years of eligibility with the Volunteers.
