Michigan Standout to Play Volleyball for Logan

Ali Krips, a senior from Dexter, Mich., signed a letter of intent last week to play volleyball on scholarship for John A. Logan College next fall. Recruited as an outside hitter by head coach Bill Burnside, Krips is the latest acquisition to a strong incoming freshman class. “The moment I saw Ali at our tryout, I knew that I would offer her a scholarship to play for us,” Burnside said. “She has a great command of all the skills of our sport and an overall athleticism that is bound to make her successful. Not signing her would have been a huge mistake. I didn’t want to let her get away.”
Krips is a high school senior in Dexter, Mich., a community located about 10 minutes west of Ann Arbor. She would likely be used as an outside hitter with a Lady Vols team that put together a 24-12 overall record in 2009, placed second in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference and captured the Region 24 tournament.
The 18-year-old Krips, who would eventually like to play volleyball at a four-year school and has plans to study graphic design, said she is excited about the opportunity to continue her volleyball career.
“Definitely. I can’t wait to get started,” she said. “I really enjoyed my on-campus visit and got an opportunity to play some with the team in practice. I also like the way Coach Burnside conducts the workouts. Logan should be a good fit for me.”
Krips said she brings “a high intensity level” to practices and games and is ready for the next level of competition.
“I would describe myself as a player dedicated to the game and will work hard at ball control. I expect to be an outside hitter, but will play wherever coach needs me.”
At Dexter, Krips earned first-team All-Conference honors both her junior and senior seasons. She was named to the All-Region Team each of the last two years, was the Ann Arbor News Washtenaw County Player of the Year for 2009 and was selected to the Class A All-State team this past fall.
As a senior, Krips recorded a team-high 634 kills; 544 digs; 65 service aces and 34 blocks to lead her high school squad to a 39-13-5 overall record. The team won the conference for the third straight year.
“There is no doubt in my mind that Ali will have a positive impact on our team next fall as a freshman,” Burnside said.
