JALC sophomore post player Antwond Roshell bulls his way inside the lane for two of his 10 points Friday against New Creations Academy.

Five players scored in double figures Friday as the John A. Logan College men’s basketball team romped to a 98-51 win over New Creations Academy out of Richmond, Ind. in opening round play of the Logan Invitational.

Sophomore reserve guard Devonte Maymon led the charge with 16 points, including three shots from behind the 3-point arc. Sophomore Kenny Harris dropped in 12 on 5-of-7 shooting from the field. Jesse Perry, Nathan Butler and Antwond Roshell each contributed 10 points. Lazeric Jones added nine.

The Volunteers, now 2-0 on the young season, shot nearly 50 percent on the night (35-of-74) and outrebounded the visiting Flyers by a nearly 2-to-1 margin (45 to 25).

“We played hard and shot the ball much better tonight than we did against Mineral Area on Tuesday,” said Vols head coach Mark Imhoff. “We were also able to get a lot of bodies onto the floor and that should mean some fresh legs for us Saturday.”

Logan will host Brehm Prep out of Carbondale at 3 p.m. today.
