Logan sophomore Jenny Bernhardt from Murphysboro tied for ninth place at the Triton Invitational with a 36-hole score of 155 (77-78).

Sophomore Jenny Bernhardt of Murphysboro fired a 36-hole total of 155 (77-78) to tie for ninth place overall and help lead the John A. Logan College women’s golf team to 11th place at the Triton Invitational hosted by the University of Missouri-St. Louis at Gateway National Golf Links in Madison, Ill., on Oct. 5-6. Competing mainly against four-year universities in the 20-team field, the Lady Vols shot a two-day team score of 667 (329-338). UMSL won the title with a 629, beating the University of Southern Indiana by three strokes.

Mallory Gentry, a sophomore from Metropolis, shot a 144 (83-84) for Logan to tie for 44th, and Lindsay Kellerman of Pinckneyville was one stroke behind her with a 168 (87-81) to finish tied for 46th. Hillsboro native Kasey McCammack posted a 177 (91-86) to place 81st for the Lady Vols, and freshman Liz Gentry from Carterville tied for 99th with a 189 (93-96). Talia Campbell (Mount Vernon) and Morgan Heisner (Pinckneyville) competed as individuals for Logan and shot 182 (89-93) and 225 (105-120), respectively.

Lady Vols head coach Bill Glenn was pleased with his team’s play.

“We had good weather on Monday and shot 329, which was really good,” Glenn said. “On Tuesday the winds picked up and rain moved in. The conditions were a lot tougher and our scores went up a little, which was expected, but we still played well. I was happy with our effort.”

This was the Lady Vols’ last tournament of the fall season, and Glenn says it’s been a solid campaign.

“We’ve had a very good fall,” Glenn said. “We’ve been consistent, especially our top three players - Jenny Bernhardt, Mallory Gentry, and Lindsay Kellerman. The rankings just came out on golfstat.com, and we’re ranked ninth in the nation. We’re going to keep working hard in the off-season, and I’m excited to see what we’ll accomplish next spring.”
