Vols Sign Ex-Razorback Post Player

The John A. Logan College men’s basketball team will certainly not hurt for size when the games get under way in November.

Coaches Mark Imhoff and Kyle Smithpeters completed their off-season recruiting campaign last week with the announced signing of 6-foot 9, 218-pound sophomore forward Andre Clark.

A native of North Little Rock, Ark., Clark averaged almost 10 minutes per game with the Arkansas Razorbacks last winter in the talent-laden Southeastern Conference.

Clark played in 24 of the team’s 30 games, averaging 2.5 points and 1.8 rebounds per game as a freshman.

At Logan, he will join fellow sophomore post players Antwond Roshell (6-10), Jesse Perry (6-8), and Isiah Simelton (6-6); as well as redshirt freshman Jacquel Webster (6-11) and incoming freshman DeMario Hines (6-8).

“We believe Andre can be a difference maker for us,” Imhoff said. “He has a year under his belt in the SEC and we all know that’s a pretty good training ground for college basketball players.”

Imhoff described Clark as “long and athletic” who will certainly add depth to a Volunteers squad that came within one win last year of advancing to the junior college national tournament.

“We are confident that Andre can score both inside the paint and on the perimeter,” Imhoff said. “We are counting on him to be productive.”

Imhoff admitted that this year’s team will be “one of the biggest, if not the biggest” team he has had the privilege of coaching at Logan.

In addition to Clark and Hines, the Vols have also signed incoming freshmen Nathan Butler, a 6-foot 5 shooting guard from Puerto Rico, and Jeff Jackson, Jr., a 5-foot 10 point guard, also out of Little Rock.
